Headteacher’s Message
Welcome to St Mark’s School, Bath. Set in picturesque grounds on the outskirts of Bath, St Mark’s is a smaller than average sized mixed CofE secondary school. That said, rest assured that our smaller size does not limit what we offer to our students! I was appointed as the Headteacher of St Mark’s just over 2 years ago (one of my proudest moments) and, following a highly successful inspection under Ofsted’s new framework, I plan to continue to build on this fantastic foundation to deliver the very best outcomes for our young people.
The full inspection report can be found on our website, however you will see from the dashboard below that the students here at St Mark’s receive the very best education, care and support that they need to achieve well.

The culture and ethos of St Mark’s is clearly embedded in promoting each and every student to be the best they can be and to ‘Let their light shine’ (Matthew 5:16). It is a warm and welcoming community that is driven by the values of Community, Resilience and Aspiration. A focus on these values, through a broad and balanced curriculum, allows our young people to quickly establish themselves and to develop their true identities in a setting where the staff know every child and value their contributions in the school and wider community. At the end of their time at St Mark’s, our students are well equipped to go out into the ever changing world and to be citizens of which St Mark’s, and you, can be proud.
“Pupils thrive at this ambitious and inclusive school.”
(Ofsted 2026)
My vision for the school is that it is a safe and happy learning environment for all students, with a strong safeguarding and personal development culture that allows pupils to behave in such a way that they can engage fully in their learning because they know the value of it. In doing this, we will continue to promote excellent Teaching and Learning and an ambitious curriculum for all that, through strong leadership, will enhance our students’ learning experiences and broaden their horizons through a wealth of extra-curricular opportunities.
“Pupils are given many opportunities to flourish here. They do so because the pastoral care they receive is excellent, helping pupils to feel confident and keen to take part in the wide variety of extra-curricular activities on offer.”
(Ofsted 2026)
At St Mark’s we have high expectations of our students. We expect them to reflect our expectations in their conduct, attitudes and appearance. These expectations are upheld by a highly skilled team of staff who act in the best interests of the students they serve. The relationships between staff and students at St Mark’s are incredibly strong and are the key to ensuring that students enjoy school, engage in their learning, and flourish as they grow.
“The school has high expectations of pupils’ behaviour and academic success.”
(Ofsted 2026)
St Mark’s School is a member of the Midsomer Norton Schools’ Partnership (MNSP). We continue to build on our successes and progress as a member of the partnership and benefit from the sharing of expertise and resources from within the partnership schools. St Mark’s School works most closely with Hayesfield Girls’ School and Beechen Cliff, as part of the Bath Hub. All three schools share good practice so that students achieve their aspirations and personal growth through a high quality curriculum offer and a wide range of exciting and engaging opportunities. Our common goal is to ensure our students have an excellent experience of secondary school.
Our desire to inspire all students for future success is extended through our post 16 partnerships with the Hayesfield Mixed Sixth, Beechen Cliff Sixth Form, and the New Sixth, as well as other local sixth forms and colleges. We also enjoy strong partnerships with local businesses, charities, post 16 providers and universities that help promote students’ personal development and broaden the opportunities that are available to them.
I am very proud to be the Headteacher of St Mark’s school and, as St Mark’s goes from strength to strength, I look forward to working closely with students, staff and parents to maintain, and raise, the excellent outcomes and progress that students in the school achieve. After all, continued improvement is a clear indicator of how well students at St Mark’s flourish. I know that the staff and students of St Mark’s share my pride in the school and I am sure that when you visit us you will understand why.
“The school’s values unite everyone. St Mark’s is a special place where difference is celebrated and pupils are able to succeed and be themselves.”
