Sporting Greats

This week, eight Year 7-9 students attended a huge sporting event for Bath. Odd Down Playing Fields played host to numerous local dignitary and some hugely famous sporting names such as Mike Ford (Bath Head Coach), Jason Leonard (RFU President), Mike Gatting OBE (Ex England Cricket Captain), Paul Tisdale (Exeter City Football Manager).

The development at Odd Down Playing Fields is part of over £3m investment by Bath & North East Somerset Council, Sport England, British Cycling, The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Rugby Football Union (RFU), the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund and will ensure a sporting legacy for the whole community for generations to come.

Students had the opportunity to get involved in some festival fun and games, acquired lots of autographs and were photographed with the prestigious Webb Ellis World Cup before embarking on a series of training matches against schools from across the South West.

Unknown to them, one of the matches was refereed by Sarah Hunter MBE – player in the England World Cup winning team with 70 caps to her name!

During the matches, St Mark’s students were joined by players from the Bath Rugby squad to help develop their skills. The students were beautifully behaved and enjoyed such a different and inspiring experience!
